Associated Press Highlights ODOT’s Leadership in Modernizing Speed Limit Setting

The Associated Press in 2025 highlight efforts by the Ohio Department of Transportation to ensure Ohio’s internal processes better respond to residents’ safety concerns.

Rose Hammond, 85, is interviewed about her efforts to lower the speed limit on the road outside her assisted living community. She wanted the speed limit lowered from 55 miles per hour. Instead, the process for lowering the speed limit — which relies on outdated engineering practices — said the speed limit should be raised 5mph.

The article explains how ODOT is responding to the problem. But Ohio Revised Code limits what the agency can do. That’s what Ohioans for Safe Streets is fighting to change.
